Here's a cute yearling fellow! This is my first ever Wild Burro to gentle and it was easy! This little guy seemed smarter than the horses and responded nicely to respectable body language. Later I adopted him. He's with my herd now!

| The BLM and LRTC, a private group, sponsored a Clinic to instruct Wild Horse adopters in gentle ways to make friends with the Wild Horses and Burros they bring home.
My two "TA's" from the Danada Equestrian Center, Vicki and Sandy, arrived and made this a very easy Clinic to do!

We are using the "Circle" to create the soothing environment. By the time this was taken, the Burro fellow had grown accustomed to our presence. Thus, we moved in a little closer. Chris is petting him. I am rubbing his back, which he discovered felt pretty good!

Vicki, the other TA from Danada Equine Center near Chicago, is having a good time as we all respond to the Burros acceptance of us. This is the way gentling of wild animals should be -- we're having fun and the Burro is too. He is winning at the game of discovering us. We try to set up each situation so he'll get a positive response from each of us. His curiosity does the rest.

Sandy, one of my wonderful TA's from Danada, is offering the Burro her hand. We've already haltered him a few times and he's used to that feeling. He's still a little unsure of this new attention. We are not restricting his movement. If he chooses to move, we move with him. He likes this position however, because that is the gate from which he entered the round pen!

Sandy rubs his head. The rest of us bend and weave as if we were brush in a mild wind in thee desert. Our arms move to and fro. The Burro learns to tune out all the "Background Noise", namely us, once he sees that those moving objects are both random and non-threatening. We know this because we are aware of his own total body language as it reacts, or doesn't, to us. If we needed to, we could all back out and open the circle full up.
