Bagari ensures they make the right choices but does not hurry them along.  She even tolerates them getting all strung-out.  On the right is Winter-Wheat with the grain still on the dying plant. It's an annual .. I am letting the donkeys and horses gaze it off at their own pace.

I have said this before,  and you have seen other pictures of this Ovcharka trait, however I always jump up to brag on it when I see it. I came down here after reading the morning NOAA weather report specifically for and area about 20 miles around the farm ... "their" guess on rain and such. It reported Heavy Rain and frequent lightning. So I set out to extract the cows and calves from the fields. My options were to saddle Pullo, a good one. Or, hang on a minute, why not let Bagari help? So I said one of Bagari's favorite phrases: "Bagari's Cows?".  She jumped up and ran with that wiggle she gets when she's on a 'Happy Mission'. Bagari headed for the gate in front of us now. About a half-mile behind us, now, we met them.  Bag's ambled around and mysteriously appeared behind them. Thus, when I said " C'Mon Girls!", a couple of the 'Rogues' had little choice when they turned around ... as there was the strict lady carry the huge purse (probable filled with rocks too). She doesn't heard, per se, like a Border Collie. That trait is distinctly aggressive and predatory, something we do not want to ever see in a genuine LGD. What she did do was suggest to the cows, her cows, that turning in her direction was just a terrible idea and going the other way, to the barns, was a wonderful idea. She did this without dancing about and without a single bark. They already know what she is capable of because, for years,  they have seen her defend them.

Yessiree! There's a young heifer who will be remaining on the farm, trying to make a turnaround. Bagari looks slightly aside to indicate she is not meaning to be aggressive. However, her tail is up and curved and she hasn't moved, so she didn't actually tell the calf she had carte-blanche to do as she wanted. This was enough of a "force" to cause the calf to rethink her actions.

On the 'Ramp' to the cow barn.  The calves are at the age of many adolescent humans where they know more than "Mom" and think they can turn around and go where they want. The slight cant of Bagari's head tells us she has already anticipated this.  The flagging tail raised only partially says she's about to make a political statement.

This is the age when the some calves will start to take a friendly interest in their LGD. I only had my iPhone camera and thus missed the near-nose-nose picture.  Bagari became tired of me fidgeting around with the iPhone and walked towards me.  The screen of the iPhone is just not usable in many outside conditions and with respect to framing and focusing a picture.

And the Heifer is back to ambling along with the other calves.  Bagari is back to quietly following. She will not be satisfied until she sees them all on the other side of the wooden barn. That young calf learned a valuable lesson. She will remain here on the farm and it is important that she learns the farm etiquette and who the enforcers are.

Yesterday, Bagari was overseeing a baby-Barn-Swallow's first attempts to fly. I say Bagari was over-seeing because for some reason the fledgling was not eaten by the three barn-cats about ten feet away. The youngster was not bothered by the horses .. And, as I came up,  I heard Bagari doing warning barks. So I picked the kid up and put him on a tall fence pole ... after letting him walk around the barn with me and greet the other animals.

On the way back, Jackson pinned his ears and dropped his head as he tried to 'charge' at Bagari.  He's done this many times and is quite a PITA ... Bagari , having just heard me growl at Jackson, took the initiative and told him he would be her diner meal if he kept it up. He seems to have understood. But, like a Donkey, he will try the aberrant behaviour the next chance he gets. Eventually she will take a chunk from his nose.
