Bandit doing Nursing Home visits again.
Here's an example of why I like the Kuvasz. Keen observational powers and heightened Suspicion. I was working on the fence line nearly at the horizon line but NOT near the skyline and had no sky behind me. Bandit is, right now, the same distance behind me with as many trees. I heard him begin a charge-run , screaming to the others that he sees something. Uh, that would be me! I had been very, very quiet, or so I thought. Somehow, he noticed that there was an "Extra Tree" between the others. When I spotted him, he was staring right at me from about a quarter mile.
When I compare the *Base* of these fangs to that of my other-breed LGD's, I find Bandits far thicker and much more likely to NOT get torn out when in a serious fight with a huge predator.
These are stout. Bandit is an import from Germany. He's also the one who took the huge section of hide and skin and tissue off a mountain lion who **tried** to get to the lambs. Strong and stout teeth make a happy-go-lucky Kuvasz for he knows what he can do and doesn't have to play the role ... He IS the role ......
Early April and Bandit is crawling under a *Creep-Gate*. The sheep can't figure it out. It's important the LGD **can** figure things like this out ... For water ... Shelter ... Food ... Attacking ...
Well, late October and Bandit is in the house and using a lot of mental energy to lick a blueberry pie plate clean. He has been doing daytime duty both teaching Cato and guiding Bagari, in the upper sheep paddock ... nearby where the big cats live. So, we will allow Bandit to be lazy before taking on his night-time guardian duties, his second job.
It was a good afternoon. The Fall colors on the trees were spectacular. Afternoon temperatures were in the mid fifties. Yes, a good day to see if Bandit would or could actually jog with me.
Last Sunday in October 06, Bandit's nearly 6, in a few days. I've been trying to get him to loose some weight. Mary suggested that Bandit go along on a 10K workout. Central park in Ashland was today's course.
Alas, he made it a couple kilometers .... happily. Then he steadfastly refused to do anything except to walk. He walked the rest of the time with Mary. Despite other dogs on leashes, countless people stopped Mary and inquired about such a magnificent Dog. Poor guy is totally pooped out tonight.
Bandit was having fun, or he thought, for a while ....
The vet, in Blue Hat, his assistant, walking after we finished gelding the two donkey burros. Bandit was very upset with them from the moment they walked into the paddock. Here. he is walking nearly sideways to protect me and guarding by what I call "Intimidation". Bagari is guarding by blocking. Agrippa already figured out it didn't matter and walks along with them.
This is Bandit's new friend. She is Anna Mazurek. Anna spent the day taking pictures of Kuvasz working as LGD's in the field. Anna has a Masters in Photojournalism and is completing an article that is going to appear in the "Progressive Farmer" magazine regarding usage of LGD's to protect livestock. She also was well liked by Leroy, seen here ... and then riding Tinka bareback, here ...

Well, the next day and Bandit is back to getting as muddy as possible. I set this up because Cato was taking to standing in the trough, the water got muddy and the sheep would not drink from it.
I noticed bandit was keeping Cato away from a "Treasure". And, Lo!, I saw a dead critter ... not sure what, but the she-thing has huge claws, like fingers. She has very long teeth and she's very dead from a deep bite. She weighs between ten and fifteen pounds. Now then, I had seen Bagari carrying such a critter last week down ion the lower paddocks. She was exceptionally proud of herself as she took it back to allow ALL the other LGD's to eat it ... so I am guessing that Bagari also killed this one up in the Forrest sheep camp and she did the same thing, took it to the other LGD's to eat. Nice little Russian girl that she is ...See Bagari HERE
